Climate Resilient Development

DaleAgro recognizes that climate change presents significant challenges to achieving sustainable development, particularly in vulnerable regions such as Africa. To address these challenges, we offer a Climate Resilient Development practice area that focuses on helping our clients in the public sector, development organizations, and NGOs across Africa to build resilience to the impacts of climate change. Our approach is based on a comprehensive understanding of the complex interplay between climate change, sustainable development, and natural resource management. Our Climate Resilient Development practice area offers a range of services, including:

  • Sustainable food systems:

Climate change is having a significant impact on food systems across Africa, with rising temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, and more frequent extreme weather events leading to reduced crop yields and increased food insecurity. These challenges are particularly acute in regions where smallholder farmers depend on rain-fed agriculture for their livelihoods, as they face a heightened risk of crop failure and income loss. In addition to reducing agricultural productivity, climate change is also increasing the prevalence of pests and diseases, further threatening food security across the continent.

We partner with development partners across Africa to offer practical solutions aimed at achieving more sustainable and resilient agricultural practices, promoting food security, and enhancing the livelihoods of rural communities. Our experts identify potential climate-related risks to their agri-food systems, including exposure to extreme weather, pests, and disease.

We also design climate-resilient agri-food systems and strategies that can withstand the impacts of climate change while still producing high-quality, nutritious food. We provide training and capacity building to farmers and other stakeholders in agri-food systems to build their resilience to climate change. Our training programs cover a range of topics, from sustainable farming practices to climate risk management.

  • Climate security:

Responding to climate-related security risks requires a that combines knowledge of climate risks with the social and political realities across Africa. To improve responses, it is therefore important to interrogate how conflicts and conflict-related migration in the key vulnerability hotspots in Africa are affected by climate change and to identify and develop adequate measures for conflict prevention and resolution that are regionally owned, while still ensuring that violent actors are held to account. DaleAgro support its clients to establish and coordinate partnership-led approaches needed to tackle climate insecurity in Africa’s vulnerability hotspots by working toward, namely:

  1. The generation of knowledge and innovations for wide-scale adoption towards,
  2. Strengthening capacities of individuals and institutions operating in climate security hotspots, and
  3. promoting engagement with practitioners and policymakers for greater impact.
